The Software Engineering Leadership Lab

You’ve made a career in software engineering and as you progressed into leadership you realised that

  • it’s more difficult to work as a leadership team
  • you have less peers than you used to
  • leadership problems differ from technical problems

Join this exclusive online mastermind peer group and discover that you’re not alone. The transition to leadership is hard.

The Software Engineering Leadership Lab stands out from conventional leadership courses by concentrating on software engineering leadership and encouraging collaborative problem-solving among peers.

I'll meet you where you are on your leadership journey and want to support you in discovering knowledge gaps. Whatever these are, I’ll not only share my knowledge within this programme but will also set pointers for you to self study and connect you with the Digital Leadership Network to deepen your knowledge.

Having navigated the transition from Software Engineer to Leader myself, I understand the unique struggles you may encounter and we can address the nuances of leading teams in the dynamic and technical field of software development.

This programme will take you through eight leadership considerations, one per weekly session. Followed by a lightning talk, in every session you will review some key learning points and discuss real problems that you are facing with peer participants in small groups. The main part is a peer mentoring session, in which one of you brings forward a current leadership challenge and seeks advice by the group.

The leadership considerations are inspired by my own leadership journey and I’ll happily share my personal leadership stories as well.

As I run this programme online and live, it is an unique opportunity for you to connect with peers internationally and learn from their different perspectives. You might as well create new relationships that last throughout your career.

I’m looking forward for you to join!

Interview: what to expect from the Software Engineering Leadership Lab?

When I created this programme, Jenny Martin - who I met in the Digital Leadership Network - interviewed me about it.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the benefits of joining this programme?

Safe space, peers, structured learning, a facilitator who has been in your shoes and the potential for long term peer mentoring relationships.

How many people will the peer group consist of?

I limit the number of participants to eight to foster trust and build relationships.

What topics will be covered?

Building trust. Leading yourself. Giving and asking for feedback. Leading with values. Navigating conflict. Adapting your leadership style. Taking care of yourself. Reflecting on your journey.

How is a session run?

Online. This enables me to bring in different perspectives from different countries. Most likely participants will be based in Europe, because I'm based here as well and set the time zone accordingly. Nevertheless I'm happy to welcome participants from anywhere!

How many sessions will we have?

We will have eight sessions with 2,5 hours each. The sessions are conducted weekly.

How is a session structured?

Followed by a lightning talk, we will dive into one aspect of leadership. You'll discuss your personal leadership stories in break out sessions with your peers. The main part is a peer mentoring session, in which one of you brings forward a current leadership challenge and seeks advice by the group.

Will the sessions be recorded?

No, we will not record any sessions to make sure you can openly share what's on your mind.

Will my challenges be kept confidential?

In our first session we'll address your need for a safe space to be able to open up and share your personal leadership stories. Everyone should handle the stories of others with discretion. Still, best share your stories anonymised and in a way that they don't reveal business secrets.

When is the payment due?

Upon your registration you’ll receive information to settle the payment. Due to the exclusive nature of this programme, the payment is required prior to the service and this programme is not refundable. In case of exceptional circumstances however, I will consider your request.
